CONNECTED RISK NEWSLETTER: MONTE CARLO ISSUE

Introduction to Connected Risk Newsletter,
by Suki Basi

Welcome to the first issue of our Connected Risk newsletter, brought to you just in time for this year’s 60th Monte Carlo Rendez-Vous. We believe that today’s world of connected risks is a game changer for the global (re)insurance market. I do hope you enjoy this first issue and encourage you to have your say. We would be delighted to receive your contributions so if you want to get connected to the debate, please contact me sbasi@russell.co.uk and join me in helping to shape, and hopefully!, influence the (re)insurance conversations of tomorrow!

Russell Group in the News

In this world of extreme connectivity, we are all joined up to the same underlying exposures, which are increasingly man-made. In this in-depth interview with Rasaad Jamie from Insurance Day, Suki Basi outlines his views on the current risk landscape. According to Basi, pressure on insurers’ balance sheets from the accumulation of liabilities from connected risks is forcing the industry to rethink the way it manages non-property damage and non-catastrophe risk exposures. Casualty Survey

Reducing premiums, increasing exposures, and connected risks have been identified as key concerns for London casualty re/insurers, according to a new survey by Russell Group, reported Insurance Day recently. However, 64% of casualty underwriters agreed the soft market is the biggest challenge facing casualty re/insurers today, and would result in reduced margin and profit. Russell Group Summer Presentation

Russell Group hosted its annual Summer presentation in Nottingham this year on the 30th August when we caught up with old and new friends alike. As usual, Russell Group’s Master of Ceremonies Mark Howell organised a fun packed schedule which involved a serious amount of networking, presentations and post dinner entertainment. There was even some time to watch a spot of cricket and much, to everyone’s amazement, England racked up a world record score in a One Day International! Now that’s entertainment.
